Local Law Enforcement
Constables are the first link in the county's chain of law enforcement, and they function as the chief process servers of the Justice Courts.
Constables have state-wide jurisdiction to execute criminal process and warrants. They have county-wide and contiguous county-wide jurisdiction to execute civil process.
Constables also provide professional services including patrol, traffic enforcement, a vacation watch program and community education programs.
Sheriffs and their deputies are fully empowered peace officers with county-wide jurisdiction. The duties of a Texas Sheriff include providing law enforcement services to residents, keeping the county jail and providing bailiffs for the county and district courts.
In addition to their other services the Sheriff's Office offers an added sense of security when you go on vacation or go out of town. With the Vacation Vacation Watch Program and the school crime stopper program Kid Chat

WHO WE ARE
We are trained volunteers donating our time and working together in the community. We assist and support law enforcement in the reduction of crime by acting as additional Eyes and Ears while on patrol.
We additionally assist with basic functions such as Traffic Control, extra patrol in areas with vandalism, loitering, or other crimes as well as vacation watches.
You will also see us working special events such as community and school functions. Citizen Patrol volunteers take no enforcement action and are unarmed.
How We operate
Once trained by local law enforcement, new Imperial Oaks C.O.P. volunteers will hit the streets as their schedules permit throughout the weeks and months ahead. Patrols will be conducted using our dedicated patrol car, bicycle patrols, and foot patrols. Patrolling in at least pairs, the volunteers work shifts with friends, neighbors, spouses, or other resident participants during daylight, evenings, and late nights as available.
By patrolling their community on a regular basis, usually in 2-3 hour shifts, Citizen Patrol groups will become more familiar with their community and are better able to recognize suspicious activity and notify the authorities. Due to their focused patrol activity, it is not uncommon for C.O.P.’s to observe crimes in progress. C.O.P.’s do not take enforcement action, they only observe and report. Citizen Patrol volunteers are not authorized to carry weapons and are encouraged to avoid physical contact. A C.O.P.'s greatest weapon is their established bond with local law enforcement and their ability to communicate directly with them by radio or cellular phones using dedicated phone numbers.
who can join
Sponsored by the Precinct 3 Constable, all C.O.P. volunteers will receive an initial background check and then attend formal training before becoming an active member. Training includes 16 hours of classroom covering topics such as Basic Law, Patrol Procedures, Traffic Control, Use of Two-Way Radios, and Crime Prevention in addition to other topics. A two hour shift in dispatch, a four hour ride along with a Constable's deputy, and a four hour ride along with an Imperial Oaks Community Patrol trainer are also required. Persons interested in becoming active in this exciting new community program must be: At least 18 years old, Live in Imperial Oaks, Apply and interview with a C.O.P panel, Pass a background check Complete C.O.P. training, Be willing to donate a minimum of 2 shifts per month, Have internet access, Be willing to attend at least 2 quarterly meetings and annual training events per year and be Committed to providing service to the community.
